Day 401: Crabcakes!

I went to Aldi for a quick trip to get some veggies and ziplocks. They have composter on sale but my store didn’t have it. Luckily my dad found it near him.

For lunch we had mi goreng with broccoli and the rest of the leftover chicken from Monday.

Matt picked up some crab meat at Costco Monday so we made crab cakes for dinner. On the side we had some Korean pancakes from H Mart and a bagged salad.

We caught up on Death in Paradise.

Day 399: Brisket

Got my second shot! It was a lot less crowded even with walk-ins. Two more weeks and we will all be fully done!

Our dogwood is blooming!

I came home and had the chicken salad we made yesterday on the leftover milk bread.

I put up brisket in the slow cooker before I left so we had that and some mustard greens tossed with egg noodles.

My arm is a little sore! We watched the latest Meurtres à… and went to bed earlyish.

Day 398: Baked Ziti

This morning Matt took my dad to get his second shot. It went okay but they wouldn’t let him go back with him this time and my dad has trouble with the tablet they have to you use to sign in. At least he doesn’t have to go back! Tomorrow I get mine and they are starting walk ins so I’m wondering how that is going to go.

I played in the yard with Mitzi and a lot of our fruit trees/bushes are blooming!

Apple, fig, serviceberry and beach plum are all blooming and our (ornamental) cherry tree is close too.

For dinner Matt made baked ziti with ricotta, rapini and mini meatballs. The meatballs were from the Italian market and made the dish a lot quicker to get together.

Matt ran in Costco to get a chicken on his way home and turned it into chicken salad for tomorrow. He also brought home some Costco sandwiches and salads for lunch so that was easy.

My appointment tomorrow is right around lunch time so I’m glad we will have something ready to eat when I get in. I don’t eat breakfast and don’t want to since there might be a line so I’ll be hungry!

We watched Zoey’s Playlist and she’s finally with Simon!

We also prepped a defrosted brisket for the slow cooker tomorrow. I do not want to have to worry about food at all this week!

Day 397: More Lamb & Tamago Sando

For lunch we made Japanese egg salad sandwiches on the milk bread we got from the bakery and the kewpie mayo we bought at H Mart. Very easy and fun! The middle egg is slightly over cooked but it was tasty!

For dinner I had the last of the Zahav meal and Matt had hot dogs on milk bread with sauerkraut lol Trying to clear out the fridge!

Tomorrow my dad gets his shot, I get mine Tuesday and Matt gets his Wednesday so I am trying to keep meals extra easy this week. I hope we don’t all get a reaction!

We watched the Great British Menu. The WWII banquet was really cute. Another show where the contestants cry a lot. So much for the British having a stiff upper lip!

Day 396: Mortadella

For lunch we had mortadella sandwiches made with meat Matt picked up Thursday.

For dinner we both had leftover lamb and three new side dishes from the Zahav kit. Goodies from the Korean bakery we went to yesterday. It was a very international day of food!

Matt did our taxes! Looks like we are getting a refund, thankfully!

Day 395: Fried Fish & Pickled Turnip

An actual outing! The conservatory had their annual spring flower show with limited timed entry so we went to that and then went to H Mart. The flowers were pretty! It’s been so long since we’ve been on that part of town!

H Mart is way in the county but well west of us so it was actually a little quicker to get there from the conservatory than from our house.

We had been trying to clear space in the freezer so we could buy dumplings. We bought like 6 bags! It’s been a long time since we’ve had dumplings and it’s such an easy snack or meal. We also bought these wild looking “corn dogs” with fish sausage to try.

For lunch we picked up sushi from the sushi stand in the store. It was pretty good! I miss sushi!

Then for dinner Mart fried up some flounder we had in the freezer and served it with some pickled radish from the prepared section of H Mart. So good!

Day 394: Zahav delivery!

Matt has a lot of vacation days so took some this week to make a long weekend.

He ran out to get some food at the local Italian market and picked up sandwiches there for lunch.

For dinner we had arranged for a fancy (and $$) meal kit from Zahav in Philadelphia for a belated anniversary/vacation treat. It was their whole lamb dinner with sides and dessert that we had in person a few years ago. Unfortunately they subbed in a dessert we didn’t want and wouldn’t have ordered had we known and some of the sides were short but it was delicious. The lamb reheated nicely, we even managed tahdig with the rice! It we have plenty left for at least one more meal. Maybe two more! We only opened 3 of the sides so we have more to explore.

We watched The Debut and Marty on Netflix DVD. We had never seen Marty. It always reminds me of the quiz show scandal whistleblower who loved Marty and was forced to give the wrong answer of On the Waterfront. The Debut was as fun as I remembered and reminded me of the grad parties I went to back then. The food looked so good. I can’t wait to go back to our fave Filipino restaurant one day.

Day 393: Tahini Cod

For lunch we just had canned soup. And a popcorn snack.

Nice weather today! Got out in the hammock and read.

For dinner I made siniyet samak bil tahineh over yellow squash and it was okay but I didn’t love the frozen cod I used. The texture wasn’t the best. I think I might stick with frozen tuna, maybe flounder and scallops and shrimp in the future.

I was excited to get the cod out of the freezer because Matt’s off the next few days and we want to go across town to H Mart and I want to actually have room for dumplings.

I gave up on the Missionary podcast. They really worked hard to dismiss anything that didn’t fit their narrative. I just couldn’t bring myself to listen to that last episode.

Matt dropped off some bread pudding I made yesterday to a friend and got to hang out with him on the porch for a while.

We watched the latest a Meurtres à… on Mhz and it was very made for TV romance-y. I can’t figure out that series at all, some of them are very different in production and tone and have names that don’t follow the format.
