Day 409: Collards

I stopped by the post office to mail out my latest weaving to an online friend who promised to report back about how it arrives. While I was out I saw three new murals in my neighborhood! Two were still being painted.

I stopped in the Italian grocery for some mini meatballs, olive spread, bread and got some sandwiches. I’m excited about small outing like this being less fraught. I’m almost two weeks out from my second shot! I’ve started putting physical books on hold to pick up. The library stopped doing curbside and opened up a few weeks ago but I didn’t want to do that before vaccines were open to everyone. I’ve been reading on my Kindle but not everything is available.

For dinner Matt finally made the collard greens with smoked turkey he wanted to make all week! I had bought a very tiny spiral sliced ham (maybe 3 lbs? less) at Aldi so we had a few slices of that. We have so much greens left! We already froze some and have a huge Pyrex leftover in the fridge.

We watched The Lady Eve on Netflix DVD. I can’t believe we have never seen it! I want to do a con artist movie marathon now.

Day 408: Meatballs!

I had to make a return at the UPS store so I did that then I went to IKEA and found nothing I wanted but did get some fun food and a cake pan. IKEA was so empty! It was almost creepy.

I came home and made these noodles we bought at H Mart. Actually pretty good! I didn’t know what to expect.

Matt had noodles and cottage cheese.

Matt wanted to make greens again but got busy. Luckily I picked up meatballs at IKEA so I made them, gravy, boiled baby potatoes and lingonberry jam with steamed asparagus.

We watched some Death in Paradise.

Day 406: leftovers

Took it easy today! I had mi goreng with cabbage and a fried egg and Matt had some soup.

For dinner we had leftover keema and potato/eggplant from Sunday.

Beautiful day! Spent time reading book number 88 for 2021 in the hammock and played ball with Mitzi for an hour.

Matt is going back to picking up his medication in person. It’s at a supermarket that we don’t love (we’ve bought spoiled meat from them several times) but they have a good dairy department and of course anything self stable is fine so it will nice to go back to picking up some things we can’t get at Aldi while he is there anyway.

Watched the finale of Meurtres à….

Day 405: Kimchi Fried Rice

No leftover so we both had canned soup for lunch. I wish that was just a little more filling!

It was a long time until dinner. I made a whole weaving. It was warmish out but very overcast. The dogs were out of pocket all day.

For dinner Matt made kimchi fried rice with leftover rice from kimbap for dinner.

We watched the Midsomer Murders premiere and it was not good! I hope the next one is better.

Day 404: Lamb Keema, Aloo Baingan & Take out!

We had a planned power outage and didn’t want to open the fridge and let the cold out so we picked up lunch at a local sub/pizza place. It was so good to have French fries! We haven’t had any in well over a year! They made really good chicken strips that come with cornbread for some reason. It was entirely contactless to! I’m glad they are keeping their employees extra safe.

For dinner Matt made lamb keema and aloo baingan. So tasty and filling with naan from Costco. We have a ton of leftovers too.

We watched Sound of Metal and it was so bad! How is it getting award attention? It didn’t make any sense on any level.

Day 403: “Corn Dogs” & Kimbap

For lunch we made these crazy potato wrapped fish sausage “corn dogs” we got at H Mart. They were pretty tasty but I felt like they needed a sauce. We also made some frozen dumplings.

There is a restaurant outside of the city that sells these fresh and I really want to try them if they are still open.

For dinner Matt made spam kimbap. I missed having burdock so much! It is so much better with it.

We watched The Talented Mister Ripley which Matt hadn’t seen before. We just saw Purple Noon which was based on the same book. We wanted to try watching Naan which is a Tamil-language adaptation of the American movie and the book but it wouldn’t stream correctly on Amazon. That is the worse streaming app!

Day 402: Jjapaguri & Crab Cake Sandwiches

For lunch I made what I call Parasite noodles after the movie but are really called jjapaghuri with leftover brisket from earlier in the week. So good! I threw some shredded cabbage in too.

For dinner we had crab cake sandwiches with homemade tarter sauce. I also had some cherry tomatoes, the end of some buttermilk blue cheese crumbled up and cucumbers.

In the morning I went to my dad’s and dropped off some of our groceries, there is a planned power outage on our block tomorrow and I was worried that it might go on too long for our meat and more perishable items might go bad.

Day 401: Crabcakes!

I went to Aldi for a quick trip to get some veggies and ziplocks. They have composter on sale but my store didn’t have it. Luckily my dad found it near him.

For lunch we had mi goreng with broccoli and the rest of the leftover chicken from Monday.

Matt picked up some crab meat at Costco Monday so we made crab cakes for dinner. On the side we had some Korean pancakes from H Mart and a bagged salad.

We caught up on Death in Paradise.
