Day 463: Chili!

I’m trying to clear out some of our freezer and “pantry” so today was chili in the slow cooker made with frozen cooked chicken breast from a Costco rotisserie chicken we hadn’t finished, salsa from the contest, fresh pepper and beans. It was a bit of an experiment but it was really tasty!

For lunch we had tuna sandwiches.

I’m working on my new loom! I went to a yarn store way outside of the city and picked up some supplies for weaving. They were really nice and had what I wanted.

Day 457: Jajangmyeon

For lunch I had some jajangmyeon (the fancier instant kind) and Matt had some of those noodles from Taiwan with egg. I put up lentil soup in the slow cooker but it was a little over filled. Rooky mistake and I wrote a whole slow cooker cookbook! I was hoping the veggies would cook down more than they did so it wasn’t ready when it was dinner time. Oops! We ended up getting a couple of dinner specials from our local Chinese takeout. We tried them again recently and they were really salty but they were much less salty and more like we remembered tonight. I’m glad because we have really limited take out options here.

We picked up Matt’s car which unfortunately has to be taken now to the dealship because the dealership is refusing to give our garage the part they need. Fingers crossed the dealership (beyond their crazy fee to even look at the car) will give us a similar price. We almost bought a new (used) car but the garage said the repair wasn’t that horrible so we didn’t take ownership so that car is gone now. The dealership can’t even look at the car until next Wednesday. Normally this wouldn’t be bad because he’s been working from home and not driving it but he’s driving to NYC in a couple weeks and we’d like to have it then.

Matt was on call all day so we watched 30 minutes of Great British Menu and I spend most of the day catching up on reviews for Netgalley and working on my blogs and researching my new loom which will hopefully ship out soon! I got an email from them saying some of the yarn was back ordered and I panicked at seeing an email from them but hopefully my loom is shipping out soon. I see it is sold out now so that was why I was nervous when I saw the email. The yarn can be found elsewhere.

Day 456: Fish Sticks

I ended up having some leftover pasta salad for lunch and posted the recipe so click the link if you are interested.

I am still trying to avoid major grocery shopping so we ended up having fish sticks for dinner and Matt had leftover pasta salad and I finished the cucumber salad from Sunday.

We watched Sorry Wrong Number (Netflix DVD) which is such an odd movie since it ends with the main character apparent death and you get the impression everything could have been avoided if she and her husband ever spoke clearly to each other.

Day 455: Pasta Salad

I had the leftover eggplant in mi goreng for lunch.

I ordered a rigid heddle loom last night and a bunch of accessories. Now I’m going to be nervous until it arrives! I couldn’t find a place locally that sold any looms. I’m glad I just did it because when I was looking at the specs today it was sold out! I went with the biggest size since you can make smaller things on it but I hope it’s not too big. And that I like using it!

I started a new punch needle with the ultra punch. I’m finally getting that vintage yarn to work by not following the instructions properly. Ha! At least it works, I have so much of that yarn. I think I might like it better with larger yarn though.

We watched Dark Horse about a town in Wales that chipped in on a race horse. Steeplechasing looks horrific!

For dinner I made a pasta salad with pesto, hearts of palm, mozzarella and olives. It’s so hot today! It was good to have a cold dinner.

Day 454: Chicken Again

For lunch I had some leftover lingcod and bok choy in some neoguri spicy seafood noodles.

Then we had leftover fried chicken and sides from yesterday!

Matt’s car is in the garage so fingers crossed it is fixable somewhat affordably.

I picked up some library books and signed up for the summer reading program again.

We watched the latest Whitstable Pearl on Acorn. It’s cute but I shouldn’t have read the book while it’s airing because the tweaks are confusing me.

Day 453: Fried Chicken

We had my mom’s memorial today! It went well. We had it “catered” by a local independent supermarket and had their famous fried chicken and all the cold salads, cornbread and deviled eggs. My dad made black bottom cupcakes. Matt kayaked out scattered her ashes in the river. Everyone said it was exactly something she would have liked. I’m glad it went well! It was very stressful and I’m looking forward to taking a break from planning things.

For dinner we knew we’d be tired so we got takeout from our favorite dim sum place. They have a limited menu now but my favorite eggplant was available so I was excited about that.

My husband’s car is acting up so we are deciding what the limit is we want to spend on repairs. It has like 150k on it but now he rarely drives. I don’t think he drove much over 1700 in the past 18 months or so.

Anyway! We watched Hacks and went to bed. Such a great show!

Day 451: Salmon Cakes & Grilled Cauliflower Salad

Today was the first day I really didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything at a specific time in a long time! It was pretty gloomy out but not too too hot.

For lunch I heated up some leftover baked potato (I had made extras because they were in a bag with a potato with a lot of eyes and there is nothing worse than cutting open a bad baked potato) with an egg, the tiny bit of lox that was left from a couple weeks ago (still good) and onion.

Matt had a dermatology appointment which went fine so I had the house to myself briefly!

For dinner I made salmon cakes with the leftover grilled salmon (so good!) and made a salad with the whole cauliflower we grilled, tahini, capers, radishes and cucumbers.

We watched a new to us show on Acorn–Candice Renoir. It was cute and apparently season two is coming later this month. I looked on IMDB and there are like 8 seasons of it so it would be great if they got them. I like to practice my French and the dialogue is easy to follow.
